Recap: Kent State vs. Central Mich
Kent, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Kellon Thomas and Chris Ortiz each finished with 17 points to lead the Kent State Golden Flashes over the Central Michigan Chippewas, 83-75, in a Mid-American Conference tilt at the M.A.C. Center.
For the Golden Flashes (14-11, 5-7 MAC), Kris Brewer added 14 points, Derek Jackson scored 13 and Mark Henniger chipped in with 10 points as the team won for the second time in as many outings.
Chris Fowler led all scorers with 19 points for the Chippewas (8-16, 1-11), while Braylon Rayson and Blake Hibbits each finished with 12 points and John Simons added 11 in the third straight loss for the program.
Kent State connected on a red-hot 60.9 percent of its shots from the field in the first half, including 4-of-10 from 3-point range. Tied at 12-12 midway through the first, the Golden Flashes went on a 16-3 run to build a double- digit lead and still led comfortably at the break, 35-26.
Kent State continued to knock down shots after intermission, this time at an even more impressive 65.4 percent clip. They hit on 5-of-9 from 3-point distance, compared to 4-of-12 from long-range for the visitors. The Chippewas opened the second half on a 15-4 run a took a brief lead, 41-39, with just under 14 minutes to play. The Golden Flashes answered, scoring 10 of the next 12 points to retake the lead and eventually the victory.
KSU outscored CMU in the paint, 38-32. The Chippewas did have the edge on the glass, outrebounding the Golden Flashes 29-26.Game Notes
