Recap: Tenn Tech vs. IUPU-Ft Wayne
Corpus Christi, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Luis Jacobo registered a double- double with 20 points and 10 rebounds as the Mastodons of IUPU-Fort Wayne slipped by the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles, 69-66, as part of the Islanders Basketball Tournament at American Bank Center.
Jacobo made good on 9-of-15 shots from the field for the Mastodons (3-2), while starters Michael Kibiloski and Steve Forbes both tallied nine points for a squad that has won two in a row and three of the last four.
The Golden Eagles (2-3) were paced by Dennis Ogbe and Dwan Caldwell with 15 points and six rebounds apiece, followed by Ty Allen with 11 points in the losing cause.
Despite turning the ball over nine times in the first half, IPFW claimed a 32-26 advantage at the break on the strength of 52.0 percent shooting from the floor, which included a 5-of-8 showing behind the 3-point line.
In the second half the Mastodons connected on only 1-of-6 out on the perimeter, yet still made good on a solid 55.6 percent from the floor in order to hold off Tennessee Tech.
IPFW overcame a mere 7-of-17 effort at the free-throw line and a 37-29 rebounding deficit on the afternoon.Game Notes
