Recap: SIU Edwardsville vs. Central Mich
Edwardsville, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Fowler tallied 23 points, including the game-winning layup with six seconds left, as the Central Michigan Chippewas edged out the SIU Edwardsville Cougars 65-64 at the Vadalabene Center.
Fowler shot 10-of-14 from the field and added six assists for the Chippewas (6-3). Rayshawn Simmons added nine points and five rebounds off the bench.
Maurice Wiltz scored 17 points for the Cougars (2-7), shooting 6-of-8 from the field, including 5-of-6 from 3-point range. Michael Messer and Ray Lester supplied 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Cougars established a more consistent offense in the opening half, shooting 52.4 percent from the field to the Chippewas' 37.5 percent, and they led 29-27 at halftime.
Central Michigan improved in the second half, shooting 48.3 percent from the field and 6-of-10 from the line. The Cougars dipped to 40.6 percent from the floor during that stretch, although they led 64-63 with just 17 seconds left after a Wiltz 3-pointer. The Chippewas answered on the other end with Fowler's game-winner, and SIUE fell short by missing two shots in the waning seconds.
The Chippewas claimed 39 rebounds to the Cougars' 31 and also outscored their opponent on second-chance points, 16-8, and on points in the paint, 32-28.Game Notes
