Recap: Tenn-Martin vs. SE Missouri St
Martin, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - A desperation heave by Antonius Cleveland from midcourt with 0.2 seconds remaining lifted the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks to a thrilling 77-74 win over the Skyhawks of Tennessee-Martin in Ohio Valley Conference action at the Elam Center.
Cleveland finished the meeting with 14 points off the bench, the second-best effort by a SEMO (15-13, 6-8 OVC) reserve behind the 22 points and eight rebounds supplied by Jarekious Bradley as the team won for the third time in the last four outings. Also playing well for the visitors was Tyler Stone with 12 points and a team-best 11 rebounds, while Nino Johnson tacked on 13 points and eight boards before fouling out.
The Skyhawks (8-21, 3-11) were paced by Terence Smith with 23 points, shooting 5-of-7 beyond the arc, followed by Dee Oldham and Marshun Newell with 19 and 16 points, respectively, in the sixth loss in seven tries for the program.
SEMO led by as many as 12 points midway through the first half and was up by seven at the break, 35-28, even though the squad missed all six opportunities behind the 3-point line in the period. The Redhawks did step up their efforts at the free-throw line where they outscored the hosts 13-5 through the first 20 minutes.
Fighting back in the second half, UTM used 53.1 percent accuracy from the floor, including 6-of-13 on the perimeter, to surge ahead by eight about seven minutes into the frame. However, a pair of free throws by Oldham knotted the score at 74-74 with four seconds remaining and then Cleveland launched his game-winner for the visitors.
In a game that featured nine ties and six lead changes, SEMO outscored the hosts by a 24-11 margin at the free-throw line.Game Notes
