Recap: Tenn-Martin vs. Murray State
Martin, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - T.J. Sapp came off the bench to pour in 20 points as the Murray State Racers coasted to an 86-72 decision over the Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks in an Ohio Valley Conference tilt at the Elam Center.
Cameron Payne tallied 17 points and eight assists for the Racers (18-9, 13-2 OVC), who also received 14 points and nine boards courtesy of Jarvis Williams. Dexter Fields and Jeffery Moss scored 12 points apiece.
Myles Taylor paced UTM (8-22, 3-12) with 16 points and seven rebounds. Dee Oldham chipped in 15 points and Terence Smith had 10 points.
Murray State took a narrow, 42-41, lead into the break after it hit on 54.8 percent of its field goal tries in the opening 20 minutes of the contest. The Skyhawks knocked down 48.6 percent of their shots from the floor, including a 5-of-9 clip from 3-point range in the first half.
The Racers continued to operate efficiently after the intermission as they sank 55.6 percent of their attempts from the floor and converted 9-of-13 tries at the free-throw lime. UTM was limited to 2-of-11 shooting from behind the 3- point line in the second half.
Murray State outscored the hosts, 13-7, at the charity stripe and finished with a 34-32 edge in total rebounds.Game Notes
