Recap: George Mason vs. Saint Josephs
Fairfax, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Halil Kanacevic scored 23 points to lead the Saint Joseph's Hawks to an 84-80 victory over the George Mason Patriots in an Atlantic 10 duel at the Patriot Center.
Langston Galloway added 20 points for Saint Joseph's (10-5, 1-1 A-10), which has won six of its last seven. DeAndre Bembry tacked on 17 points and Papa Ndao contributed 13.
Jalen Jenkins and Bryon Allen scored 20 points apiece for George Mason (7-9, 0-2), which endured its third straight defeat. Sherrod Wright had 11 points on 4-of-11 shooting before fouling out and Patrick Holloway chipped in 10 off the bench.
Even though Saint Joseph's shot 60.9 percent from the floor and George Mason shot 54.5 percent in the first half, the Patriots entered halftime leading 45-40 by holding a 21-12 scoring edge from 3-point range.
The Hawks kept shooting well in the second half, netting 57.7 percent from the field, while the Patriots cooled to 43.3 percent. The big push came down the stretch when the Hawks used a 15-3 run to turn a two-point deficit into a 10- point lead with less than a minute to play.
Saint Joseph's was the superior team inside, outscoring George Mason 44-34 in the paint and outrebounding it 31-26.Game Notes
