Recap: Toledo vs. Ball State
Toledo, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Julius Brown netted 20 points and dished out a team-high seven assists as the Toledo Rockets downed the Ball State Cardinals, 85-74, in Mid-American Conference action at Savage Arena.
Justin Drummond and Nathan Boothe each chipped in 17 points for Toledo (23-4, 11-3 MAC), while Drummond added five assists and Boothe grabbed six rebounds. J.D. Weatherspoon scored 14 points with eight boards, and Rian Pearson contributed 13 points in the win. Toledo has won five of its last six games.
Chris Bond scored a game-high 22 points, adding eight rebounds for Ball State (4-21, 1-13). Jesse Berry tallied 17 points, hitting 5-of-12 from 3-point range, and Mading Thok notched 12 points in the loss. The Cardinals have lost nine consecutive games dating back to late January.
Toledo connected on 53.1 percent of its shot attempts in the first half, including 6-of-10 from 3-point range, and took a 42-31 lead at the intermission. Ball State hit 43.3 percent of its field goal tries in the frame.
The Rockets improved their shooting accuracy in the second half, netting an even 60 percent from the field, and added 12-of-15 from the free-throw line. The Cardinals jumped up to 48.4 percent shooting in the period, but couldn't make up any ground.
The Rockets had the edge in points off turnovers, 24-14, and at the free-throw line, 14-10. Ball State held the advantage in bench points, 22-4.Game Notes
