Recap: Ball State vs. Toledo
Muncie, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Rian Pearson led all scorers with 20 points, as the Toledo Rockets outlasted the Ball State Cardinals, 80-73, in Mid- American Conference action at Worthen Arena.
Pearson shot 8-of-13 from the field for Toledo (20-3, 8-2 MAC), which has won two straight and eight of nine. Julius Brown added 18 points for the visitors, Justin Drummond and Nathan Boothe poured in 12 and 11 points, respectively, and J.D. Weatherspoon hauled in 11 rebounds.
For Cardinals (4-17, 1-9), losers of five straight, Zavier Turner netted 18 points, Majok Majok tallied a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds and Chris Bond chipped in 12 points.
Toledo opened up a 15-point lead midway through the first half, but Ball State finished the frame on a 17-2 run to tie the score at 35 heading into intermission.
The Rockets regained control in the second half, using a 17-4 run to open up a 13-point advantage with 11:33 to play. The Cardinals cut their deficit to just one on two separate occasions but could never overtake the lead, as Toledo sealed its fate by shooting 4-of-4 at the free-throw line in the final 18 seconds.
Toledo shot 49.1 percent from the field on the afternoon, compared to just 39.2 percent for Ball State. The Cardinals were also plagued by 21 turnovers, which resulted in 25 points for the Rockets.Game Notes
