Recap: Western Mich vs. Ball State

Kalamazoo, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Shayne Whittington registered a double- double consisting of 21 points and 15 rebounds as the Western Michigan Broncos posted a 62-53 win over the Ball State Cardinals in a Mid-American Conference battle at University Arena.

Whittington, who shot only 7-of-21 from the floor, also handed out three assists and made three steals for the Broncos (11-7, 4-2 MAC) as they won for the second time in as many outings. David Brown and Connar Tava also scored in double figures with 17 and 11 points, respectively.

The Cardinals (4-13, 1-5) were led by Majok Majok and Chris Bond with 13 points apiece, the former pulling down 10 rebounds as well, while Zavier Turner pitched in with 11 points, although he shot just 2-of-10 from the field and was chraged with seven turnovers as the team lost for the fifth time in six tries.

Both teams made just eight field goals in the first half, but thanks to four conversions behind the 3-point line, BSU was able to sneak out with a 26-25 edge at the break.

In the second half the Cardinals dipped to 1-of-10 on the perimeter and hit only seven field goals, en route to the nine-point road loss.

Western Michigan survived despite shooting only 36.7 percent from the floor, 2-of-9 beyond the arc and suffering with 16 turnovers.
