Recap: Kent State vs. Ball State

Kent, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Darren Goodson came off the bench to score 23 points and grab seven rebounds, as the Kent State Golden Flashes cruised to an 86-74 victory over the Ball State Cardinals in Mid-American Conference play at the M.A.C. Center.

Goodson connected on 9-of-12 shooting from the floor in 28 minutes of action for Kent State (10-5, 1-1 MAC). Kris Brewer chipped in 18 points, hitting 7- of-9 from the charity stripe. Derek Jackson contributed 12 points and four assists. Kent State snapped a three-game losing streak with the win.

Mark Alstork led four double-digit scorers with 15 points, 10 rebounds and five assists for Ball State (3-10, 0-2). Majok Majok netted 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Zavier Turner (12 points) and Chris Bond (10 points) rounded out the top Cardinals scorers. Bond turned the ball over a team-high five times. Ball State has lost nine of its last 10 games.

The Golden Flash hit 41.4 percent of their shots in the first half, including 3-of-10 from 3-point range. The first 20 minutes belonged to Ball State, as the Cardinals connected on 60.9 percent of their shots from the floor and 4- of-8 from 3-point distance. They went into the half up 39-32.

The second half was just the opposite. Kent State shot an impressive 64.3 percent from the field and hit 15-of-20 from the free-throw line. Ball State's percentage dropped to 42.3, but the Cardinals hit all nine free-throw attempts in the half. The Golden Flash outscored the Cardinals 54-35 in the second frame.

Kent State forced 18 Ball State turnovers that translated to 26 points, while the Cardinals had just 11 points off nine forced turnovers. The Golden Flashes got a significant contribution from their reserves, outscoring Ball State 35-15 in bench points.
