Recap: Monmouth vs. Fordham
West Long Branch, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Andrew Nicholas buried six 3- pointers and finished with 30 points and eight rebounds, as the Monmouth Hawks topped the Fordham Rams, 87-78, in non-league play from The MAC.
Reserve Max DiLeo added 18 points and Deon Jones scored 13 for the Hawks (6-6), winners of three straight.
For the Rams (6-4), Jon Severe led the way with a game-high 32 points behind an 8-of-13 effort from the perimeter. Branden Frazier joined him in double figures with 12 points to go along with seven rebounds.
Monmouth jumped out to a nine-point lead with just under eight and a half minutes to play in the first half. However, Fordham responded with a 14-0 run and eventually went into the locker room with a 46-41 halftime lead.
The Rams stayed hot early in the second stanza as they led by as many as 13 with 12 minutes to play. They were ahead, 77-70, following a three by Severe with three and a half minutes remaining. But Monmouth answered with a string of four 3-pointers and went on to out-score the Rams by a 17-1 margin the rest of the way.
After shooting 50 percent from the floor in the first half, Fordham shot just 33.3 percent (9-of-27) over the final 20 minutes.Game Notes
