Recap: Buffalo vs. Akron
Buffalo, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Javon McCrea posted a outstanding all-around effort with 20 points, 13 rebounds, eight assists and three blocks, as the Buffalo Bulls outlasted the Akron Zips, 96-90, in Mid-American Conference play at Alumni Arena.
Joshua Freelove put up a team-high 21 points for Buffalo (15-8, 9-4 MAC), which has won four of its last five tilts. Jarod Oldman poured in 20 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the field and Shannon Evans came off the bench to score 12.
For Akron (17-9, 9-4), which had been winners of three of four coming in, Demetrius Treadwell registered 21 points and seven boards to lead the way. Nyles Evans shot 4-of-9 from 3-point range en route to 18 points, while Quincy Diggs and Pat Forsythe contributed 14 and 10 points, respectively.
Akron shot an impressive 54.8 percent from the field in the first half, but Buffalo was even better at a blistering 67.9 percent, as the Bulls carried a 48-42 lead into intermission.
The Bulls' advantage swelled to as many as 14 early in the second stanza. The Zips climbed back to make it just a two-point game, 79-77, with 5:14 remaining, but they would get no closer as Buffalo held on down the stretch.
