Recap: Bowling Green vs. Akron
Bowling Green, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Quincy Diggs scored a team-high 14 points and knocked down the game-winning jumper with four seconds remaining to lift the Akron Zips to a thrilling 65-63 victory over the Bowling Green Falcons in a Mid-American Conference clash at the Stroh Center.
Demetrius Treadwell tallied a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds for Akron (16-7, 8-2 MAC), which has won five of six, while Nick Harney poured in 11 points.
For BGSU (10-13, 4-6), losers of two straight, Jehvon Clarke led all scorers with 19 points. Richaun Holmes tallied 14 points, 13 rebounds, four steals and three blocks, while Spencer Parker and Cameron Black netted 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Akron started the game off hot, shooting 51.7 percent from the field in the first half on its way to a 35-26 lead at intermission. BGSU lagged behind by shooting 45.5 percent in the opening 20 minutes.
The script was flipped after halftime, with the Falcons shooting 50 percent and the Zips 42.3 percent. Akron led by 10, 52-42, with under eight minutes to play, but BGSU clawed its way back to tie the game at 63 with 12 seconds left on a Clarke 3-pointer. The Zips responded on their last possession with Diggs' dramatic game-winner, and the Falcons were unable to get a final shot off before the buzzer sounded.
