Recap: Akron vs. Toledo
Akron, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Julius Brown scored a game-high 25 points as the Toledo Rockets captured a 75-61 win over the Akron Zips in Mid-American Conference action at Rhodes Arena.
Also scoring in double figures for the Rockets (15-2, 3-1 MAC) were J.D. Weatherspoon and Nathan Boothe with 20 and 10 points, respectively, the former clearing 14 rebounds as Toledo posted a third straight victory.
Demetrius Treadwell registered a double-double for the Zips (11-6, 3-1) with 18 points and 10 boards, while Jake Kretzer dropped in 14 points, shooting 4- of-10 behind the 3-point line, and Nick Harney contributed 11 points as the squad had a five-game win streak snapped.
All of Toledo's 37 first-half points were scored by the starters, with Weatherspoon putting up 13 and clearing seven rebounds, followed by Brown with 10 points, although the latter shot only 3-of-10 from the floor in the frame. Of the 28 points posted by the Zips, all but 10 came from the reserves as the squad shot a collective 47.6 percent from the floor in the period.
In the second half Akron's field goal accuracy dipped to just 37.0 percent, the squad hitting only 1-of-12 attempts behind the 3-point line over the final 20 minutes of action, en route to the double-digit setback.
Akron, the last team to drop a MAC matchup, was beaten on the glass by a 42-28 margin and converted only 16-of-27 (.593) at the free-throw line on the day.Game Notes
