Recap: Eastern Ill vs. Eastern Ky
Charleston, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Glenn Cosey scored 34 points and handed out six assists to lead the way as the Eastern Kentucky Colonels coasted to an 100-81 victory over the Eastern Illinois Panthers in an Ohio Valley Conference tilt at Lantz Arena.
Cosey hit on 10-of-12 attempts from beyond the arc and also swiped a pair of steals for EKU (10-4, 1-0 OVC), which also received 17 points from Corey Walden. Marcus Lewis added 14 points and five steals while Timmy Knipp came off the bench to chip in 10 points.
Sherman Blanford paced the Panthers (4-9, 1-1) with 23 points and six rebounds. Reggie Smith had 18 points and five assists, but also committed five of EIU's 17 turnovers. Dylan Chatman scored 13 points in the loss.
The Colonels drained 63.3 percent of their field goal tries including 10-of-19 from 3-point range in the first half to take a 56-36 lead into the break. EIU trailed by 20 points at halftime despite shooting an even 50 percent from the floor and converting 16-of-20 shots at the free-throw line in the opening 20 minutes of play.
EKU extended its lead to as many a 31 in the second stanza. EIU made 21-of-24 tries at the charity stripe after halftime and won the second half by a point, but it was not enough to overcome the Colonels' sizeable advantage.
EKU converted the Panthers' miscues into 28 points and outscored EIU, 20-3, in fast break points.Game Notes
