Recap: Dayton vs. Rhode Island
Dayton, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Led by 21 points and 12 rebounds from Dyshawn Pierre, the Dayton Flyers downed the Rhode Island Rams, 76-69, in Atlantic 10 action at UD Arena.
For the Flyers (17-8, 5-5 A-10), winners of four straight, Devin Oliver and Jordan Sibert each added 10 points.
E.C. Matthews led the Rams (11-14, 2-8) with 22 points, while Hassan Martin posted a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds and Xavier Munford chipped in with 12 points.
Dayton shot 44.4 percent from the field, including 4-of-11 from 3-point range in the first half. Rhode Island connected on an impressive 54.2 percent from the field and 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. Despite the shooting disparity, the Flyers took a 39-34 lead at the break by outscoring the Rams at the free-throw line in the half, 11-5.
The Flyers shot just 39.3 percent from the field in the second but were able to force eight turnovers and convert them into 10 points. The Rams continued to shoot the ball well after the break, knocking down 50 percent of their field goal tries. Dayton led comfortably for most of the second half, with Rhode Island only challenging in the final minutes, getting as close as four, but Dayton was able to hang on.
Dayton forced 18 turnovers for the game and committed just eight miscues of its own. The Rams had the edge in the frontcourt, outscoring the Flyers in the paint, 34-32, and outrebounding them, 32-29.Game Notes
