Recap: Belmont vs. Austin Peay
Nashville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - J.J. Mann scored 28 points, 22 of which came in the first half, to lead the Belmont Bruins to an easy 93-68 victory over the Austin Peay Governors in an Ohio Valley Conference battle at the Curb Event Center.
Five players scored in double figures for the Bruins (19-8, 10-2 OVC), including Reece Chamberlain (13), Evan Bradds (12), Blake Jenkins (11) and Craig Bradshaw (10). Chamberlain also dished out 10 assists and went without a turnover.
Chris Horton posted a double-double for the Governors (10-13, 4-5) with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Will Triggs finished with 17 points, Ed Dyson added 16 points and Travis Betran chipped in with 10.
Both squads shot well to open the contest. Belmont connected on 57.1 percent of its field goal tries in the first half, including 7-of-17 from 3-point range. Austin Peay was close behind, making 56 percent of its shots from the field and 2-of-6 from deep. The Bruins took a 53-44 lead into intermission.
After the Governors got as close as five in the opening minutes of the second half, the Bruins separated themselves with a 23-5 run that put the game out of reach for the visitors, as Belmont coasted the rest of the way for the win.
The Bruins dominated the perimeter, outscoring the Governors 39-9 from 3-point distance. Belmont had the edge down low as well, finishing with a 38-28 advantage in points in the paint.Game Notes
