Recap: Dayton vs. Iona
Dayton, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Dyshawn Pierre posted a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds as the Dayton Flyers defeated the Iona Gaels, 96-84, in a non-conference tilt at UD Arena.
For the Flyers (9-2), Vee Sanford added 17 points and Khari Price scored 16.
A.J. English led all scorers with 30 points for the Gaels (5-4), while Sean Armand finished with 20 points and Tre Bowman tallied 14 points.
The Flyers led at the break 51-42 and opened the game shooting 54.1 percent from the floor and 4-of-11 from 3-point range. Iona was even hotter from the field, connecting on 57.1 percent of its field goal tries, including 5-of-9 from beyond the arc.
The Flyers stayed hot in the second half, dropping in 57.1 percent of their field goal attempts, including 4-of-9 from 3-point range. The Gaels cooled off from the first half, making 46.9 percent of their shots from the floor and 7- of-17 from 3-point distance. Dayton's lead was in double figures for almost the entire second half, going ahead by as many as 23 points, as they coasted to victory and remained perfect (6-0) at home on the season.
The Flyers dominated down low, outrebounding the Gaels 40-26 and outscoring them in the paint 52-34. Dayton also had a 22-9 scoring advantage on the fast break.Game Notes
