Recap: Texas State vs. Texas-Arlington

San Marcos, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Reger Dowell came of the bench to score a team-high 16 points in the Texas-Arlington Mavericks' 56-48 win over the Texas State Bobcats in a Sun Belt Conference bout at Oscar Strahan Coliseum.

Lonnie McClanahan scored 12 points for the Mavericks (7-10, 2-3 SBC) but also had 10 turnovers. Jamel Outler scored 11 points for the, while Brandon Edwards had a team-high seven rebounds and blocked three shots.

The Bobcats (5-13, 1-4) struggled shooting all night with only Gordon Ball scoring in double figures, putting up 10 points.

Texas State held a slim 24-22 lead at the half despite falling behind 10-2 early in the game. The Bobcats ended the half on a 9-2 run with three different players hitting a 3-point shot to claim the lead. Both teams shot an identical 7-of-22 from the field in the opening 20 minutes.

The second half saw the Bobcats continue to shoot a low percentage from the floor (32.4 percent), but the Mavericks' shooting improved to 47.4 percent. They also had 16 free-throws attempts in the half to just two for the Bobcats. The game was still close down the stretch, however, with the Mavericks holding a slim 44-42 lead with 4:23 remaining, but a 6-0 run and good foul shooting by the road team led to a Mavericks' win.

UTA held on to win despite committing a game-high 19 turnovers.
