Recap: Middle Tennessee vs. Belmont
Murfreesboro, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Paced by a career-high 32 points from J.J. Mann, the Belmont Bruins dismissed the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders, 70-58, in a non-conference clash at the Murphy Center.
Mann shot 7-of-15 from the field, including 4-of-8 from beyond the arc for Belmont (8-2), and he was also active from the free-throw line (14-of-16). Drew Windler chipped in 10 points and six rebounds for the visitors.
For Middle Tennessee (6-2), which had its 33-game regular-season home winning streak snapped, Shawn Jones logged a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Neiko Hunter was also impressive with 16 points, six boards and three blocks.
Although neither team shot greater than 40 percent from the field in the first half, Belmont made three 3-pointers compared to zero for Middle Tennessee, as the Bruins took a 29-22 lead at the break.
The Blue Raiders brought their deficit to four, 56-52, with 3:36 left on a Hunter dunk, but the Bruins proceeded to rip off six straight points to separate themselves. Mann was 7-of-8 from the foul line in the final 1:18 and scored 25 of his 32 points in the second half.
Belmont scored 14 points off of 15 Middle Tennessee turnovers while committing just 11 miscues itself.Game Notes
