Recap: Marshall vs. Western Ky
Huntington, WV (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Thomas erupted for 27 points and registered six steals as the Marshall Thundering Herd took down the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, 74-64, in a non-league battle at the Cam Henderson Center.
Also scoring in double figures for the Herd (4-2) was Kareem Canty with 15 points, although he shot just 5-of-16 shooting from the field in the team's second straight win.
Pacing the Hilltoppers (3-2) was Payton Hulsey with 16 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, followed by Brandon Harris and T.J. Price with 11 points apiece. Coming up a point shy of a double-double was Aaron Adeoye who came down with a game-high 10 rebounds.
Marshall lost starting forward Elijah Pittman early in the first half when he was called for a Flagrant 2 foul, so the team was not at full strength as it fell behind at the break, 36-30.
After shooting only 7-of-11 at the free-throw line through the first 20 minutes of action, the Herd responded with 23-of-28 accuracy at the charity stripe after intermission. It also helped that the defense held the visitors to only 6-of-27 from the field in the second half, en route to the double- digit decision.
Marshall forced 23 turnovers and also outscored WKU at the line, 30-15.Game Notes
