Recap: Louisiana vs. Georgia State
Lafayette, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - R.J. Hunter erupted for 33 points as the Georgia State Panthers captured a 77-70 win over the Ragin' Cajuns of Louisiana in a Sun Belt Conference bout at the Cajundome.
Also scoring in double figures for the Panthers (13-6, 6-0 SBC) as they remained undefeated in league play and won for the 10th-straight outing, were Ryan Harrow with 17 points and Manny Atkins 11 to go along with his team-best 11 rebounds as well.
The Ragin' Cajuns (12-7, 3-3) were led by Shawn Long who scored 17 points, cleared a game-high 15 rebounds and also rejected five shots, but still the team bowed for the second time in the last three outings. Elfrid Payton came up a rebound shy of his own double-double as he accounted for 21 points before fouling out, while Bryant Mbamalu chipped in 11 points and six boards.
Shooting 41.4 percent from the field in the first half, Louisiana led by as many as 10 points late in the period, but the squad came out with only a 29-25 advantage at the break after connecting on a mere 2-of-10 beyond the arc.
In the second half the Ragin' Cajuns again had their issues on the perimeter (1-of-9) but at the same time GSU was converting not only 5-of-7 shots on the outside, but also 25-of-31 at the free-throw line in order to claim the win.
In a game that featured nine ties and 12 lead changes, Louisiana outscored the visitors in the paint, 46-16, but the Panthers countered with a 27-11 edge at the charity stripe.Game Notes
