Recap: Arkansas State vs. Texas-Arlington
Jonesboro, AR (SportsNetwork.com) - Kirk Van Slyke poured in 23 points as the Arkansas State Red Wolves coasted to an 83-60 win over the Texas-Arlington Mavericks in a Sun Belt Conference tilt at the Convocation Center.
Cameron Golden chipped in 14 points in 14 minutes for the Red Wolves (15-9, 8-5 SBC). Melvin Johnson III and Brandon Reed netted 13 points apiece, while Ed Townsel dealt out five assists.
For UTA (11-14, 6-7), Brandon Edwards tallied 14 points and seven rebounds. Jamel Outler and Lonnie McClanahan scored 10 points each in the losing effort.
ASU took a 42-30 lead into the intermission after it shot an even 50 percent from the floor including an 8-of-16 clip from 3-point range in the opening period. The Mavericks were limited to 2-of-10 shooting from beyond the arc in the first half.
The Red Wolves continued their dominance in the second stanza as they once again made 50 percent of their field goal tries. UTA was limited to 37 percent efficiency from the floor over the final 20 minutes of the contest.
ASU enjoyed a 34-29 edge in the rebounding battle and assisted 15 of its 24 makes from the floor.Game Notes
