Recap: Louisiana vs. Arkansas State
Lafayette, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Shawn Long notched a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns routed the Arkansas State Red Wolves, 85-67, in a Sun Belt Conference clash at the Cajundome.
Elfrid Payton knocked in a game-high 22 points and had seven assists for the Ragin' Cajuns (17-9, 8-5 Sun Belt), who extended their winning steak to five games. Bryant Mbamalu and JJ Davenport netted 19 and 13 points, respectively.
Melvin Johnson III and Kendrick Washington each chipped in 19 points for the Red Wolves (14-9, 7-5), who had a three-game winning streak snapped. Ed Townsel added 13 points in the losing effort.
The Ragin' Cajuns shot 44.4 percent from the field in the first half to the Red Wolves' 37.9 percent. At halftime, the teams were knotted at 32 apiece.
The Wolves improved to 45.5 percent in the second half, but were eclipsed by the Cajuns' 59.4 percent, including 4-of-9 from beyond the arc. Louisiana led by as many as 19 points on its way to victory.
The hosts dominated the Wolves inside the paint, outscoring them 44-24 and outrebounding them 40-23.Game Notes
