Recap: Texas State vs. Arkansas State

San Marcos, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Cameron Golden scored 20 points as Arkansas State held on to beat Texas State, 74-69, in Sun Belt Conference action at Oscar Strahan Coliseum.

Golden connected on 7-of-11 shooting and dished out five assists for Arkansas State (9-4, 2-0 Sun Belt). Ed Townsel (12 points), Kyle Van Slyke (11), Kendrick Washington (10) and Brandon Reed (10) all contributed double-digit scoring for the Red Wolves. Arkansas State has won four games in a row.

Joel Wright scored a game-high 22 points for the Bobcats (4-11, 0-2) but turned the ball over four times in the loss. Reid Koenen scored 16 points off the bench, while Emani Gant added 11 and five rebounds. Texas State has lost three in a row and five of its last six.

The Red Wolves went into the locker room up 33-27 after shooting 45.8 percent from the field in the first half, hitting 8-of-14 attempts from beyond the arc. Texas State converted just 3-of-7 free-throw attempts in the first half.

Arkansas State upped its shooting percentage in the second half to 61.9 percent from the floor, but was outscored by the Bobcats, 42-41, in the period. Texas State hit all 12 free-throw attempts in the second frame.

Despite the loss, Texas State dominated in points off the bench (45-15) and in points in the paint (38-18). Still, the Red Wolves maintained a 13-point lead midway through the second half.
