Recap: CS-Northridge vs. Cal Poly
Northridge, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Eversley registered a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds as the Cal Poly Mustangs defeated the Cal State Northridge Matadors, 62-55, in a Big West Conference bout at The Matadome.
Kyle Odister gave the Mustangs (9-14, 5-5 BWC) a spark off the bench with 14 points.
For Cal State Northridge (12-14, 4-7), Stephen Maxwell netted a game-high 18 points and Stephen Hicks chipped in 12 points. Tre Hale-Edmerson recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards, which he accompanied with four blocks. Josh Greene also scored 10 points as the Matadors lost for the third time in four games.
Cal Poly went into the intermission on top, 31-25, despite being limited to 40.7 percent efficiency from the floor in the opening period. The Matadors managed to connect on only 36.7 percent of their field goal attempts including a 1-of-6 clip from behind the 3-point line in the first half.
Cal State Northridge's offensive woes continued as it made good on only 36 percent of its field goal tries in the second stanza. Although the Mustangs cooled off to sink just 29.6 percent of their shots from the floor, they converted 13-of-18 shots at the charity stripe after the break to keep the hosts at bay. Eversley made a layup with 8:37 remaining in regulation to give Cal Poly a sizeable, 51-40, advantage on the scoreboard before the Matadors used a 15-6 run to cut the deficit to just two points with just over two minutes left to play. Cal State Northridge's rally came up short as it was held scoreless the rest of the way.
The Mustangs enjoyed a 39-37 edge in the rebounding battle and held Cal State Northridge to a 2-of-11 clip from beyond the arc in the contest.Game Notes
