Recap: South Dakota vs. Wyoming
Rapid City, SD (SportsNetwork.com) - A 3-point play by Larry Nance Jr. with 2.6 seconds remaining in overtime gave Wyoming the lead as the Cowboys held on for the 67-66 victory against the South Dakota Coyotes in non-conference play at Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.
Nance Jr. finished with a game-high 25 points for the Cowboys (7-2) as they posted their third straight win and the second of the season against South Dakota (3-5). Josh Adams accounted for 12 points and Derek Cooke Jr. eight points and a game-high 14 rebounds for the Pokes.
South Dakota was paced by Brandon Bos who tallied 22 points, although he shot just 5-of-16 from the floor and 2-of-7 behind the 3-point line. Tyler Flack recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Trevor Gruis accounted for 10 points before fouling out.
A close game throughout, USD managed to take a 27-24 advantage at the break even as the squad shot only 35.7 percent from the floor. Wyoming converted just 36.0 percent from the field in the period, including 5-of-15 on the perimeter.
In the second half the Coyotes stretched their lead to seven, but they needed a pair of free throws by Bos in the waning moments in order to send the meeting into overtime locked at 60-60.
During the bonus session South Dakota made only one field goal on six attempts, but still Wyoming needed a late play by Nance to put it over the top.
The game featured 13 ties and just as many lead changes and while USD held the Cowboys to only five offensive rebounds, the hosts managed to convert just 5- of-20 shots on the outside.Game Notes
