Recap: BYU vs. Utah State
Salt Lake City, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - Tyler Haws netted 21 points as the BYU Cougars knocked off intrastate rival the Utah State Aggies, 85-74, at EnergySolutions Arena.
Haws shot 6-of-13 from the field and 8-of-8 from the free-throw line for the Cougars (6-2). Matt Carlino (18 points), Eric Mika (15) and Frank Bartley IV (14) also scored in double figures, and Kyle Collinsworth supplied 13 rebounds and eight assists.
Spencer Butterfield scored 20 points for the Aggies (5-1) on 8-of-15 from the floor, including 4-of-8 from 3-point range. Jarred Shaw recorded a double- double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Kyle Davis and Preston Medlin added 16 and 10 points, respectively.
In the first half, the Aggies found a rhythm from the field, shooting 59.4 percent to the Cougars' 45.7 percent, and they were able to hit 5-of-11 from 3-point range to go up 44-39 at halftime.
The Aggies went ice-cold in the second half, however, as they shot only 35.3 percent from the floor. BYU's distinct advantage came at the line, where they converted 13-of-18 opportunities. The Cougars got out to a 12-point lead with just under four minutes to play, their largest advantage of the contest.
The Cougars dominated the paint, where they outscored the Aggies, 54-38. They also scored 20 fast-break points to Utah State's zero.Game Notes
