Recap: Southern Utah vs. UNLV

Cedar City, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - Roscoe Smith had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds as the UNLV Runnin' Rebels easily beat the Southern Utah Thunderbirds, 73-51, in a non-conference matchup at Centrum Arena.

Jelan Kendrick scored 12 for the Runnin' Rebels (4-4), Bryce Dejean-Jones and Kevin Olekaibe scored 11 points apiece, while Khem Birch tallied seven points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots as the team won for the second time in the last three outings.

Trey Kennedy and Jaren Jeffery led the Thunderbirds (1-6) with 10 points apiece.

Southern Utah's poor shooting helped give UNLV a 38-23 lead at the break. The home team converted 38.1 percent from the field and went 1-of-6 from 3-point range. The Runnin' Rebels shot a solid 45.8 percent on field goal tries and connected on 4-of-10 from beyond the arc in the frame.

The second period wasn't much better for SUU as it shot a miserable 27.8 percent from the field. UNLV was able to knock down 44 percent on its way to the easy win.

UNLV outrebounded the Thunderbirds, 44-33, and outscored the visitors at the free-throw line, 24-13.
