Recap: New Mexico vs. New Mexico St
Albuquerque, NM (SportsNetwork.com) - K.C. Ross-Miller led New Mexico State with 16 points, as the Aggies avenged an earlier loss to rival New Mexico, posting a 67-61 road win at the Pit in Albuquerque on Tuesday evening.
Ross-Miller was just 3-of-9 shooting from the floor, but went a perfect 8-of-8 from the free-throw line in the win for New Mexico State (9-5). Daniel Mullings and Tshilidzi Nephawe added 14 points each.
New Mexico (7-3) wasted a game-high 25 points from Cameron Bairstow, who posted his fourth straight game with 20 points or more. Kendall Williams added 17 points for the Lobos, who received a double-double from Alex Kirk with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Aggies took advantage of the Lobos' slow start, taking a 39-26 lead at halftime, as New Mexico was a mere 7-of-26 from the floor (.269) over the first 20 minutes. While the Aggies shot a modest .414 from the field in the first half, they were able to knock down 7-of-12 from 3-point range (.583).
New Mexico State cooled off in the second half, missing all five of its 3- point attempts and converting just 33.3 percent from the floor. New Mexico got within two points with just under a minute to play, but was outscored 6-2 to close out the game.
The Lobos failed to score from 3-point range (0-7) for the first time in 737 games. UMN held a narrow 36-35 edge in rebounding and outscored NMSU 25-18 at the free-throw line in the loss. New Mexico won in Las Cruces on Dec. 4, 79-70, to earn a split with New Mexico State.Game Notes
