Recap: Cal Poly vs. Nevada
San Luis Obispo, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Deonte Burton converted the game- winning three-point-play with just six seconds remaining to lift the Nevada Wolf Pack to a 60-58 triumph over the Cal Poly Mustangs at Mott Athletics Center.
Burton led all scorers with 24 points on 10-of-20 from the field for Nevada (1-1) while also adding four steals. Cole Huff netted 14 points, while Michael Perez tallied 13 points and six rebounds.
For Cal Poly (0-2), Chris Eversley narrowly missed a double-double with 19 points and nine boards. Kyle Odister poured in 11 points, and Jamal Johnson handed out seven assists.
Cal Poly had the upperhand in the opening stanza, outshooting Nevada from the floor, 44.4 percent to 32.1 percent, on its way to a 32-23 lead at the break.
The Mustangs led for most of the fourth quarter until Burton made a layup with 4:18 left to put the Wolf Pack up, 47-46. Cal Poly would retake the lead down the stretch and had a one-point advantage late before Johnson committed a turnover with 11 seconds to play, and on the other end Burton was fouled after making a layup and converted the ensuing free throw. Cal Poly had one last chance to tie or take the lead but Eversley turned the ball over.
Cal Poly committed 17 turnovers, while Nevada coughed it up just nine times.Game Notes
