Recap: Missouri State vs. Southern Ill
Springfield, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Jarmar Gulley posted a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Missouri State Bears over the Southern Illinois Salukis, 69-63, in Missouri Valley Conference action at JQH Arena.
For the Bears (14-6, 4-4 MVC), Gavin Thurman added 14 points, Dorrian Williams finished with 13 points and Austin Ruder chipped in with 12 points.
Desmar Jackson led the Salukis (6-15, 2-6) with a game-high 18 points, while Tyler Smithpeters scored 16 and Anthony Beane finished with 11.
MSU shot 43.5 percent from the field in the first half, including 4-of-9 from 3-point range, as the Bears led at halftime, 29-27. SIU made just 36.7 percent of its field goal attempts in the half, with 3-of-8 coming from beyond the arc.
In the second half, both teams got hot from the field. The Bears connected on 57.9 percent of their field goal tries and the Salukis hit on 60 percent, with both squads knocking down three 3-pointers in the period. Trailing 51-48 with under nine minutes to play, the Bears used a 8-0 run to go ahead for good and held on for the home victory.
The Bears got the better production from their bench, with their reserves outscoring their counterparts', 24-4. MSU also finished with a scoring edge from the free-throw line, 20-11.Game Notes
