Recap: Indiana State vs. Southern Ill
Terre Haute, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Jake Odum scored 15 points, and the Indiana State Sycamores held on for a 60-57 win over the Southern Illinois Salukis in a Missouri Valley Conference fracas at the Hulman Center.
Khristian Smith chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds off the bench to help the Sycamores (20-6, 11-3 MVC) improve to 10-1 at home.
Desmar Jackson had 19 points and Anthony Beane scored 18 to go along with a game-high eight boards for the Salukis (10-17, 6-8), who entered the day with wins in four of their previous five games.
SIU dictated the pace early on, as neither team shot better than 35 percent from the floor in the opening frame. The upset-minded Salukis took a 27-24 halftime lead into the locker room.
The Salukis stretched their lead to as many as seven with just under 13 minutes to play in regulation. However, Indiana State finally came to life and went on a 21-8 run over the next 10 minutes to surge ahead, 58-52, with 2:47 remaining. Still, SIU would not go quietly as it had a couple of chances to tie the game in the final possession but could not get a 3-pointer to fall.
The Salukis shot just 38.8 percent for the game and were outscored in bench points, 28-16.Game Notes
