Recap: Boise State vs. Texas-Arlington
Boise, ID (SportsNetwork.com) - Anthony Drmic matched a career high with 34 points as the Boise State Broncos ran over the Texas-Arlington Mavericks, 116-87, in season-opening action at Taco Bell Arena.
Drmic shot 12-of-22 from the field and made five 3-pointers for Boise State (1-0), which fell just shy of its school-record of 118 points set on Jan. 25, 1971. Ryan Watkins tallied a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Derrick Marks (17 points), Dezmyn Trent (13 points) and Mikey Thompson (10 points, six assists) were also active in the high-scoring affair.
For UTA (0-1), Reger Dowell (20 points), Lonnie McClanahan (19 points) and Vincent Dillard (18 points) all had impressive showings in their team debuts. Brandon Edwards chipped in 13 points and eight rebounds in the losing effort.
Boise State came out red-hot in the first half, shooting nearly 62 percent from the field as it opened up a commanding 61-39 lead at the break.
The Broncos continued their efficient field goal shooting after intermission (.541). Facing a large deficit, UTA found it easier to score baskets late in the game, but Boise State's fate was never in question.
