Recap: Loyola-Chicago vs. Evansville

Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Led by 24 points, six rebounds and four assists from D.J. Balentine, the Evansville Purple Aces edged out the Loyola- Chicago Ramblers, 75-72, in a Missouri Valley Conference matchup at Gentile Arena.

For the Purple Aces (13-18. 6-12 MVC), Duane Gibson added 22 points and Jaylon Moore chipped in with 11 points.

Joe Crisman led the Ramblers (9-21, 4-14) with 20 points, while Christian Thomas scored 17 and Milton Doyle finished with 13 points with five assists.

Both teams came out firing in the first half. Evansville connected on 55.6 percent from the field, while Loyola-Chicago was close behind at 50 percent shooting. A 10-0 run early in the half put the Purple Aces ahead and they led at the break, 37-27.

Evansville continued to knock down its shots after intermission, shooting 57.7 percent from the field. Loyola struggled with its shots after halftime, making just 40.7 percent of its field goal tries. Trailing by double digits for most of the second half, the Ramblers rallied late and were able to get within one point several times in the final minute. Down three with seven seconds to play, they had a chance to send the game into overtime, but Thomas's 3-point try at the buzzer was off the mark, as the Purple Aces survived for the road win.

Evansville outscored Loyola, 46-34, in the paint. The Ramblers were able to force 11 turnovers and convert them into 18 points.
