Recap: Evansville vs. Indiana State
Evansville, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Khristian Smith notched 27 points and the Indiana State Sycamores defeated the Evansville Purple Aces, 81-62, in a Missouri Valley Conference matchup at the Ford Center .
Smith shot 11-of-13 from the field for the Sycamores (11-3, 2-0 MVC), who won their fourth straight game. Dawon Cummings (22 points), Jake Odum (14) and Justin Gant (10) also reached double figures.
D.J. Balentine led the Purple Aces (7-8, 0-2) with 23 points on 8-of-15 from the field. Jaylon Moore scored 14 points and Egidijus Mockevicius grabbed 10 rebounds, as the Aces have lost five of their last six.
Evansville shot a confident 56.5 percent from the field in the first half. ISU, shooting 44.8 percent on more attempts, found the perimeter touch on 5- of-11 and led 35-31 at the half.
The Purple Aces went ice cold in the final 20 minutes though, shooting 34.8 percent from the floor and only knocking down eight shots. At the other end, the Sycamores turned up the heat and shot 60.9 percent from the field and hitting 15-of-20 at the line to erase the deficit.
ISU outscored Evansville in the paint, 30-22, and 15-4 on second-chance opportunities.Game Notes
