Recap: Drake vs. Northern Iowa
Des Moines, IA (SportsNetwork.com) - Richard Carter led the way with 19 points and six assists as the Drake Bulldogs defeated the Northern Iowa Panthers, 70-67, in a Missouri Valley Conference matchup at the Knapp Center.
For the Bulldogs (14-13, 5-10 MVC), Trevor Berkeley added 15 points.
Seth Tuttle scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Panthers (13-14, 7-8), while Deon Mitchell finished with 16 points in the loss.
Drake shot 50 percent from the field in the first half, including 5-of-11 form beyond the arc. The Bulldogs opened the game on a 13-2 run and led at the break, 37-26. UNI struggled from the field, making only 30 percent of its tries from the field, including 3-of-10 from 3-point range.
The Bulldogs cooled off somewhat after intermission, hitting on 45 percent from the field. The Panthers improved to 46.4 percent from the field and 6- of-15 from 3-point range, as they attempted a furious comeback.
Trailing 62-44 with under eight minutes to play, the Panthers went on a 20-3 run, holding the Bulldogs scoreless for nearly seven minutes, to pull within one, 65-64, with 26 seconds left in regulation. However, The Bulldogs made 5-of-6 free-throws in the last 16 seconds to hold off the Panthers and secure the victory.
Drake had the edge on points in the paint, 30-26. The Bulldogs also outrebounded the Panthers, 37-27.Game Notes
