Recap: Drake vs. Indiana State
Des Moines, IA (SportsNetwork.com) - Manny Arop tallied 16 points and six rebounds to lift the Indiana State Sycamores to a 77-73 decision over the Drake Bulldogs in a Missouri Valley Conference matchup at the Knapp Center.
Jake Odum contributed 15 points and six assists for ISU (12-3, 3-0 MVC) as it won its fifth game in a row. Dawon Cummings had 13 points and Khristian Smith scored 12.
Drake (10-5, 1-2) endured its second consecutive setback despite a stellar performance by Richard Carter, who poured in 29 points on 11-of-21 shooting from the field. Jordan Daniels added 15 points while Aaron Hawley scored 11 points. Seth Vandeest posted 10 points and blocked two shots in the loss.
The Sycamores knocked down 44.8 percent of their field goal tries and 10-of-10 attempts at the free-throw line in the first half. Drake went into the intermission facing a 40-30 deficit after it shot 39.3 percent from the floor.
The Bulldogs opened up the second period on an 18-7 run to take a 48-47 lead with 11:55 remaining. After the contest went back-and-forth over the next seven minutes, Arop sank a 3-point field goal attempt with 4:52 remaining to put ISU in front for good. The Sycamores outscored the hosts, 15-6, from beyond the arc in the second half to pick up their sixth road win of the campaign.
Despite the loss, Drake outscored the visitors, 38-26, in the paint. ISU drained 16-of-18 shots at the free-throw line in the game.Game Notes
