Recap: Drake vs. Nebraska Omaha
Des Moines, IA (SportsNetwork.com) - Richard Carter led the way with a double- double, scoring 23 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, as the Drake Bulldogs defeated the Nebraska Omaha Mavericks, 88-80, in a non-conference duel at the Drake Knapp Center.
Five players scored in double figures for the Bulldogs (3-1), including Aaron Hawley with 14 points, Seth VanDeest and Gary Ricks each with 13 and Chris Caird with 12 points off the bench.
Devin Patterson and C.J. Carter each finished with 17 points and five rebounds for the Mavericks (3-3), while Marcus Tyus added 16 points and John Karhoff chipped in with 12. Reserve Matt Hagerbaumer scored nine points and posted game highs of 13 rebounds and four blocked shots.
Omaha shot 45.5 percent from the field in the first half and connected on 7- of-16 from beyond the arc. Drake made 47.2 percent of its field goal tries, including 3-of-8 from 3-point range. Trailing most of the opening period, Drake finished the half on a 7-2 run and the teams entered halftime tied at 42-42.
After intermission, Drake hit on 51.9 percent of its shots from the field, including 6-of-13 from 3-point distance. Omaha managed to make just 42.9 percent of its field goals tries and 4-of-11 from 3-point range in the second. The Bulldogs opened the second half on a 7-0 run and never trailed the rest of the way.
Drake dominated in the paint, outscoring Omaha 34-18, and also forced the visitors into 17 turnovers.Game Notes
