Recap: Bradley vs. Jacksonville St
Peoria, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Tyshon Pickett recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Bradley Braves over the Jacksonville State Gamecocks, 72-65, in the season opener at Carver Arena.
Pickett was 7-of-11 from the floor for Bradley (1-0), while Omari Grier led the team in scoring with 17 points on 3-of-6 from 3-point range. Despite shooting just 6-of-20 from the field, Walt Lemon stuffed the stat sheet with 16 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals. Auston Barnes added 11 points and five rebounds.
The Gamecocks (0-1) were paced by Grant White, who was 5-of-7 from the field, including 3-of-4 from long range, on his way to 16 points. Darion Rackley chipped in 13 points and D.J. Felder contributed 10 points before fouling out.
Although the Braves allowed Jacksonville State to shoot over 50 percent from the field in the first half, their execution at the free-throw line allowed them to take a 33-27 lead into intermission after they went 8-of-10 from the charity stripe.
In the second half, the Gamecocks were held below 40 percent from the floor, as Bradley outscored them over the final 20 minutes, 39-38, to hold on for the victory.
The difference in the game came from beyond the arc, as Bradley shot an efficient 6-of-13 from 3-point range compared Jacksonville State's 3-of-16 night from long distance.Game Notes
