Recap: Penn vs. Princeton
Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Miles Jackson-Carwright's two free- throws with five seconds remaining proved to be the difference as the Penn Quakers knocked off the Princeton Tigers 77-74 in the Ivy League opener for each team at the Palestra.
Tony Hicks led Penn (3-10, 1-0 Ivy League) with 18 points, while Darien Nelson-Henry and Fran Dougherty each added 17 points. Dougherty collected 12 rebounds as well for the Quakers, who ended a seven-game losing streak with the win.
T.J. Bray scored a game-high 19 points to lead five players in double figures for Princeton (11-3, 0-1). Will Barrett provided 15 points, Hans Brase tallied 14 and Denton Koon and Spencer Weisz each chipped in 10.
Penn led 43-38 at the break after shooting 56.7 percent in the first half while holding Princeton to 40.6 percent.
The Tigers rallied in the second period by shooting 46.2 percent from the field, including a 4-of-10 showing from beyond the arc. They trailed by as many as 11 points in the frame but clawed their way back, tying the game at 74-74 in the final seconds. However, Jackson-Cartwright was fouled on the next possession and notched the two free-throws that pushed Penn ahead for good.
The Quakers earned a 42-25 advantage in rebounds. Princeton forced 18 turnovers while committing only eight itself.Game Notes
