Recap: South Florida vs. Detroit
Tampa, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Juwan Howard, Jr. and Jaron Williams scored 12 points each as the Detroit Titans defeated the South Florida Bulls, 65-60, in a non-conference tilt at the Sun Dome.
Evan Bruinsma posted 11 points and eight rebounds for Detroit (4-4) as it snapped a two-game losing streak. Ugochukwu Njoku gave the Titans a huge spark off the bench with four steals in 14 minutes of action.
Martino Brock paced the Bulls (4-2) with 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor. Victor Rudd contributed 11 points, nine rebounds and three blocks for USF, which went 3-of-18 from behind the 3-point line in the contest.
The Bulls assisted seven of their 13 made field goal attempts in the opening 20 minutes to take a 31-23 lead into halftime. Detroit was held to just 28.1 percent shooting from the floor in the first half.
The Titans improved to convert 38.5 percent of their field goal tries and also drained 21-of-24 attempts at the free-throw line after the intermission. Detroit began the second period on a 7-0 run and led for the final 13:40 of regulation. USF's lead slipped away as it shot just 29.6 percent from the field in the second half.
The Titans enjoyed a 44-35 edge in the rebounding battle and netted 20 second chance points compared to just 12 by the Bulls.Game Notes
