Recap: Georgetown vs. FIU
Washington, D.C. (SportsNetwork.com) - Nate Lubick, Markel Starks and D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera each scored 15 points, as the Georgetown Hoyas toppled the FIU Golden Panthers, 92-57, in non-conference play from the Verizon Center.
The Hoyas (8-3) shot 60.7 percent as a team to rebound from last weekend's 22- point loss to Kansas, which snapped their six-game winning streak.
Dennis Mavin led the way with 16 points for the Golden Panthers (8-6), who were coming off a turnover-marred loss to Louisville last week and committed 18 turnovers in this one. Tymell Murphy and Rakeem Buckles scored 15 points apiece off the bench to round out the double-digit scorers.
The Hoyas raced out to a commanding 50-14 halftime lead behind a 65.5-percent shooting effort from the floor (19-of-29), while FIU made only 5-of-20 field goals in the opening frame. It marked the fewest points Georgetown allowed in a half since limiting Temple to 13 during the 2009-10 campaign.
Both teams shot better than 50 percent from the floor in the second stanza as the Hoyas coasted to the lopsided victory.
GU eclipsed the 80-point barrier for the sixth time this season as it won for the sixth time in the last seven games.Game Notes
