Recap: Houston vs. Temple

Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - TaShawn Thomas netted 25 points, pulled down nine rebounds and blocked six shots as the Houston Cougars cruised past the Temple Owls, 88-74, in an American Athletic Conference clash at Hofheinz Pavilion.

Jherrod Stiggers came off the bench to score 20 points, shooting 5-of-9 from 3-point distance, for Houston (12-12, 4-7 AAC). Danuel House chipped in 16 points and Brandon Morris contributed 15 points with four assists. The win snaps a five-game losing streak for the Cougars.

Dalton Pepper scored 17 points to pace Temple (6-16, 1-9), while both Quenton DeCosey and Anthony Lee chipped in 14 points, with Lee grabbing nine rebounds. Will Cummings scored 12 points and dished out a team-best six assists, and Devontae Watson notched a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The Owls have lost three in a row and 11 of their last 12.

Houston came out strong in the first half, netting 51.6 percent of its field goal tries in the frame to take a 40-29 lead into the break. Temple hit just 39.4 percent of its shots in the period.

The Cougars didn't let up a bit in the second half, despite the double-digit lead. They connected on 56.3 percent of their attempts to Temple's 50 percent.

Houston had the edge in points in the paint, 40-26, and in bench points, 22-6. Temple outrebounded Houston in the contest, 40-30.
