Recap: Houston vs. TX-San Antonio
Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Jherrod Stiggers finished with 15 points as the Houston Cougars coasted to an 80-62 victory over the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners in a non-conference tilt at Hofheinz Pavilion.
TaShawn Thomas added 14 points, six rebounds and four blocked shots for Houston (3-0), which had 11 different players contribute in the scoring column.
Hyjii Thomas paced UTSA (0-2) with 22 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the floor. Jordan Sims finished with 13 points and three steals while Keon Lewis tallied 10 points off the bench.
After the Cougars scored on their first possession, Thomas knocked down a jumper to bring the Roadrunners even with the hosts. Houston led the rest of the way and took a commanding, 36-19, lead into halftime despite converting only 5-of-14 attempts at the free-throw line in the opening 20 minutes of action. UTSA hit on only 20.7 percent of its field goal attempts and missed all six of its shots from beyond the arc in the first half.
The Roadrunners improved to shoot 43.8 percent from the floor after the break, but Houston stayed in front by draining 59.3 percent of its field goal tries in the second period.
Despite the loss, UTSA held a 40-34 edge in the rebounding battle and outscored the Cougars, 20-15, in second chance points.Game Notes
