Georgetown (11-7) at Creighton (16-3)

GAME NOTES: The Georgetown Hoyas will try to cool down the Creighton Bluejays when the two meet up for a Big East Conference clash at CenturyLink Center Omaha.

Georgetown is mired in a three-game slide and has lost four of five overall after a 2-0 start to conference play. Most recently, the Hoyas were dealt an 80-72 overtime loss by Marquette on Monday night.

Meanwhile, Creighton brings a 10-0 home record into this game and has won 11 of its last 12 overall, including Saturday's 96-68 drubbing of fourth-ranked Villanova in Philadelphia. The Bluejays sank a league-record 21 3-pointers in that game as they now sit all alone atop the Big East standings with a 6-1 mark in their first year as a league member.

These teams have met only once before on the hardwood, and that matchup came during the 1970 Gold Coast Classic as Creighton notched an 80-79 victory.

Georgetown squandered a seven-point lead over the final three minutes of regulation on Monday night, as Marquette forced overtime with a game-tying 3- pointer with 10 seconds on the clock. The Golden Eagles then dominated the extra session to steal the win. The outcome spoiled a career-high 28 points from Georgetown's Markel Starks along with another 24 from sophomore D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera, who leads the team in scoring (17.5 ppg), 3-pointers (42) and steals (23). Starks is averaging 15.9 points and a team-best 3.9 steals, while Joshua Smith rounds out the double-digit scorers with 11.5 ppg. Smith, however, has missed the last few games due to academic reasons and remains out indefinitely along with forward Jabril Trawick (7.1 ppg.), who broke his jaw earlier this month. Without those two, the Hoyas must continue to rely on their league-best defense, which has held foes to 39.3-percent shooting from the floor this season.

The Bluejays' 3-point barrage against Villanova was something to behold as they set both school and Big East records. Incredibly, they made each of their first nine attempts from beyond the arc and had 14 threes by halftime, eventually finishing 21-of-35 (.600) for the game. Ethan Wragge accounted for nine of those triples en route to a game-high 27 points, while All-American forward Doug McDermott went 5-of-8 from downtown and scored 23. McDermott (24.8 ppg, 7.1 rpg, .440 3-pointers), the nation's leading returning scorer, has garnered Big East Player of the Week honors five times already this season. He has scored 19 points or more in all but one game. Wragge is second on the team in scoring with 12.5 ppg and is shooting at a ridiculous 50- percent clip from beyond the arc (74-of-148).

Creighton is coming off its first road win over a ranked team since 1978 and its first win of any kind against a top-5 opponent since 1970. They have the shooters to avoid a letdown here.
