Recap: Butler vs. St Johns
Indianapolis, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - JaKarr Sampson netted 20 points as the St. John's Red Storm coasted to a 69-52 victory over the Butler Bulldogs in a Big East Conference tilt at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
Rysheed Jordan chipped in 16 points for SJU (12-8, 2-5 Big East) as it earned its first true road win of the 2013-14 campaign. D'Angelo Harrison added 12 points.
The loss was the seventh in eight outings since entering Big East play for the Bulldogs (11-9, 1-7). Khyle Marshall scored a team-high 16 points and Kellen Dunham contributed 10 points.
SJU took a 41-34 lead into the intermission after it shot 54.8 percent from the field including a 5-of-8 clip from beyond the arc in the first half. Although the Bulldogs knocked down 61.9 percent of their field goal tries, they attempted 10 less shots from the floor and went 0-of-2 from 3-point range before the break. Butler led by 10 points in the opening period before allowing the visitors to rally back.
The Red Storm began the second stanza on an 8-0 run that put the game out of reach. The Bulldogs made only 6-of-22 field goal attempts after the intermission.
The 17-point setback was the worst at home for the Bulldogs since the 1993-94 season. Butler, which has yet to win a conference game at home, finished the contest just 1-of-8 from 3-point range. The win was the third in a row for the Red Storm.Game Notes
