Recap: Butler vs. Purdue
Indianapolis, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Kellen Dunham pumped in a game-high 25 points to lift the Butler Bulldogs to a 76-70 victory over the Purdue Boilermakers in the Crossroad Classic at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
Khyle Marshall nearly registered a double-double for Butler (8-2) with 18 points and nine rebounds. Erik Fromm added 14 points and blocked four shots for the Bulldogs as they picked up their third win in a row.
Terone Johnson led Purdue (8-3) with 20 points and seven boards. Bryson Scott added 13 points and A.J. Hammons chipped in 10 points in 17 minutes before fouling out. The setback ended the Boilermakers' three-game winning streak.
Butler overcame an early eight-point deficit and took a narrow, 36-33, lead into the intermission after outscored the Boilermakers, 20-14, in the paint in the first half. Purdue was limited to 37.5 percent shooting from the field before halftime.
Johnson made a shot in the early stages of the second half to give Purdue a 39-37 lead, but the Bulldogs went ahead, 44-43, after Dunham made a shot from beyond the arc and extended their lead to seven points by the midway point of the period. Butler knocked down 55 percent of its field goal attempts including 5-of-9 from behind the 3-point line over the final 20 minutes of the contest.
The Bulldogs converted Purdue's 18 turnovers into 25 points to earn their fourth consecutive decision over the Boilermakers.Game Notes
