Recap: Penn vs. Penn State
Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Tim Frazier's game-high 29 points helped carry the Penn State Nittany Lions to a 83-71 victory over the Penn Quakers at The Palestra.
Frazier went 9-of-13 from the field and 11-of-12 from the foul line for Penn State (2-1) while adding seven assists. D.J. Newbill chipped in 19 points, and Travis Ross brought down 11 boards for the visiting team.
For the Quakers (1-2), Darien Nelson-Henry had 21 points and five rebounds, while Fran Dougherty and Tony Hicks added 14 points apiece. Miles Cartwright led Penn in assists with five.
Penn State took a 49-22 lead into the break. The Nittany Lions shot an impressive 59.4 percent from the field in the opening stanza, including 6- of-15 from beyond the arc. Penn struggled, going just 30.4 percent from the floor.
The home team came out of the intermission and started to shoot the ball better. The Quakers shot 52 percent from the floor in the second half but only managed to go 2-of-10 from 3-point range. Penn State cooled off a little bit, shooting 45.5 percent from the field, but it still managed to stay in control.
