Recap: Texas vs. Oklahoma
Austin, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Buddy Hield scored 22 points, leading five players in double figures, as the Oklahoma Sooners slipped by the Texas Longhorns, 88-85, in Big 12 Conference play at the Erwin Center.
Tyler Neal and Isaiah Cousins both tallied 13 points and combined for 13 rebounds for the Sooners (12-2, 1-0 Big 12) as they won for the eighth time in nine outings. Jordan Woodard accounted for 12 points and Ryan Spangler 11 for the visitors.
The Longhorns (11-3, 0-1) were paced by Javan Felix who tallied a game-high 28 points and handed out five assists as the squad lost for the second time in three games. Jonathan Holmes and Damarcus Croaker both added 15 points and Cameron Ridley 14 and eight boards, as well as four blocked shots.
Oklahoma connected on a sizzling 10-of-16 behind the 3-point line in the first half, but the Longhorns also performed well on the perimeter (7-of-13) in order to stay within striking distance at the break, 43-39.
In the second half both teams cooled off considerably on the outside, the Sooners hitting on only 3-of-12 and Texas 2-of-9. The visitors show only 38.7 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes as well, but made up for it with a near-perfect 18-of-20 at the free-throw line, en route to the narrow win.
The Sooners outscored the hosts at the charity stripe, 21-14, and also won the rebounding battle, 39-28.Game Notes
